This progress, announced in the 2023 Panorama of Renewable and Recovered Heat, reflects an upward trend over several years, rising from 13.3% in 2008 to 22.3% in 2021. Despite this progress, a large portion of heat consumption is still supplied by fossil fuels, representing 45% of the country&#8217;s final energy consumption. It is therefore imperative to continue promoting renewable energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.   <\/p>\n<h2><strong>Contribution of Renewable Sources<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Among the various renewable and recovered energy sources used in France, wood remains at the forefront with a 63% contribution to renewable production in 2022. Heat pumps also represent a significant share at 22.9%, followed by renewable gas (5.3%) and waste recovery (3.5%). These figures highlight the growing importance of renewable energy sources such as biomass and geothermal energy in the French energy landscape. Diversification of renewable energy sources is essential to ensure a balanced and sustainable energy transition.   <\/p>\n<h2><strong>Call for Ambitious Policies<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Professional organizations are calling for bold policy decisions to accelerate the transition to decarbonized heat. They recommend establishing ambitious national targets, particularly by setting a goal of 55% of heat consumed from renewable and recovered sources by 2030, with a near-total renewable energy heat target by 2050. Additionally, they are requesting concrete measures such as an increase in the State&#8217;s heat fund, a trajectory for enhanced support for energy renovation work, and the development of all sectors to increase renewable and recovered heat production.
