Persistent Challenges in the Digitization of VSEs and SMEs

Despite a stated intention to invest in digital projects, the pace of adoption remains slow, with only 40% of companies investing more than €1,000 per year in digital transformation. Furthermore, fewer than 40% of companies believe that digital technology generates profits, highlighting a gap between expectations and the actual results of digitization. A notable trend lies in the choice of VSEs and SMEs to invest more in IT management tools than in online visibility solutions. While most companies are equipped with billing management tools, fewer than 5% of customers are acquired online, highlighting a challenge in expanding the customer base via the Internet. This trend reveals a preference for internal management tools, even though online visibility can offer new business opportunities.

Professionalization of Digital Support

Despite these challenges, the France Num barometer highlights an increasing professionalization of support for the digital transformation of VSEs and SMEs. Companies expressing concerns related to cybersecurity prefer to turn to French service providers who are geographically close. Furthermore, more and more business leaders are turning to their professional networks for help with their digital transition, reflecting a recognition of the importance of specialized support in this process.

Emerging Trends : AI and Digital Sobriety

The fourth edition of the France Num barometer also highlights emerging trends, such as the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) and initiatives in favor of digital sobriety. Although AI is still little used by VSEs and SMEs, data analysis solutions are gaining popularity, particularly in the retail sector. Additionally, a growing number of companies are implementing actions in favor of digital sobriety, reflecting an increasing awareness of the environmental impact of digital practices.
